The Gaussian Blur effect allows you to make the picture or parts of the picture appear glassy, unclear, indistinct, or blurred. You can use this effect especially when you want to block or hide parts of the picture.

Below are some examples of this effect:

Ok, lets dive in! (If you are a familiar with editing pictures, you can skip the first step)

Step 1
First, you have to select a picture to edit. If you are using the site as a Guest, you can easily upload a picture from the home page or if you are already a member, you can login and simply go to Your Pictures to find a picture to edit. Click here to learn more about uploading or selecting a picture.

Step 2
Now, you can simply select the 'Gaussian Blur' effect from 'All Effects' or it can also be found under 'Quick Fixes'.

After you have made the selection, the controls should appear (see left) for you to customize this effect.

You can select the Blur Level that is suitable and then you can hit the 'Apply Now' button above to apply the effect to the picture. And that's it! The picture should update itself within seconds (please be patient this may take a while depending on the size of the picture and your current bandwidth).

Also, if you like, you can click the Make a Selection button below to select an area on the picture you would like to apply the effect (only). This is great for blocking, hiding or blurring parts of the picture only.

Step 3
After you have finished playing with the options, and you're satisfied with the changes you've made to the picture, you can save the picture to Your Gallery (members only) or you can download the picture to your computer by selecting either 'Save' or 'Download' from the toolbar above the picture.

Also, you can save the exact changes you've made to the picture to 'My Effects' for use later. To do this, when you are saving the picture to Your Gallery, check the box that says 'Save to my effects'

NOTE: You can always remove the ''Gaussian Blur" effect by clicking the 'Remove' button. The picture before the gaussian blur effect should restore to its previous state.

Remember, you can always apply and combine multiple effects to get a better or more creative picture. This means that after you add a drop shadow to a picture, you can still apply a grayscale effect, adjust its brightness, flip or rotate the cropped picture and many more...
